April 2023

Here is a roundup of the activities and events happening in and around New Canaan this spring!

Yoga & Sound Bath series at the Carriage Barn

Saturdays through April 22   9 AM-10 AM

Join us Saturday mornings for a wellness collaboration between Carriage Barn and Grounded Meditation. This Gentle Yoga and Sound Bath series will engage both body and mind to help melt away the stresses of the week and start your weekend right!

After a brief opening meditation, we’ll stretch and loosen up with a gentle yoga practice, accompanied by the soft sounds of Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, gongs, drums and more. You’ll then sink into an extended Savasana like no other while you become immersed in the magical sounds of the healing instruments, creating vibrational energy to lull you into a deeply relaxed, meditative state.

Open to all levels; no experience needed. Please bring a mat and any other props you would like for comfort- blanket, bolster, pillow, eye covering, etc.

The Back End (17 Elm Street)

Head to The Back End, New Canaan for a fun fueled team trivia night! With 5 rounds, ending with a name that tune you can have up to six players in your team. Fab food and drinks and prizes for winning teams.

Call Scott @ (203) 594-9130 to reserve a table.

DROP DEAD by Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore (a comedy murder mystery)

Drop Dead!” is a play about a bad stage production, similar to “The Play That Goes Wrong”. Most of the action takes place on a stage that has to be transformed to resemble the low-budget “off-off-off-off Broadway” stage called for in the script.

The stage, which is said to have been created on a $35 budget, is complete with uneven walls and defective props. Even the furniture is painted into the background.

At Town Players of New Canaan, we’re so used to doing all the little things that make a set look really good, this is gonna be a challenge to continually remind ourselves NOT to do those things, and rather to make the set look the part!

GetAbout is a locally founded organization that provides transportation for anyone who does not drive for any reason. For 40 years GetAbout has provided safe, reliable transportation services to New Canaan’s senior residents, and other members of our community who are unable to drive either temporarily or due to long-term disability.

GetAbout provides free rides anywhere within New Canaan and to and from any type of medical appointment in the surrounding towns of Wilton, Norwalk, Darien, and Stamford. This past year we provided 8,000 rides to 160 New Canaan residents and we’ve delivered 2,500 Meals on Wheels to home-bound New Canaan residents.

We sincerely hope to see you on April 21st join in the celebration of this incredible organization as it is just one of the many things that make this town so special and all of us so lucky to call it home!

“Emily Kelting’s iPhone photography course took the quality of my iPhone photos from a 5 to a 10 in only a few hours. I used to see those billboards with iPhone photos that looked incredible and wondered, “How are they getting photos that look like that from an iPhone, because mine definitely do not compare?” Now I know!  If you want to take incredible photos with your iPhone, I highly recommend Emily’s course. You won’t believe the results.”

St. Mark's 2023 May Fair

Friday, May 12th and Saturday, May 13th

St. Mark’s May Fair is a beloved 74-year New Canaan tradition. Originally a small community event known as the “Strawberry Festival,” the May Fair has grown over the years and now features a wide range of fun activities and delicious food for the whole family.

The 2023 May Fair will offer new and exciting amusements as well as the activities Fair-goers look forward to experiencing, including the White Elephant Tag Sale, Mother’s Day plants, and, of course, Strawberry Shortcake.

Net proceeds from the May Fair are used to fund local charities through the St. Mark’s Outreach Commission program, a lay organization that accepts grant applications from area charities and then allocates May Fair proceeds among grantees as gifts. The grants are made based on the perceived need, potential benefit, and values represented by the respective charitable organizations, not all of which are faith-based.

DVCC’s role is to help those experiencing any level of domestic violence and assist them in building a safer environment for the well-being of themselves and their families. Our services include 24-hour crisis intervention through our 24-hour hotline, the Lethality Assessment Program, and our two emergency safe houses; legal advocacy; trauma-informed counseling for adults and children, housing and financial sustainability services; and prevention education. All victim services are free and confidential, and all services offered are multicultural/multilingual.

Monday, May 22nd

The New Canaan Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Clubs of New Canaan and Stamford are proud to announce that they will combine efforts this year and host the 2023 Community Cup – a charity golf event. As both the Chamber and the Rotary’s mission is to serve the community, winnings from the event will be directed to local nonprofit organizations.

The Tournament will be held at the Silvermine Golf Club on Monday May 22nd, 2023.  The afternoon kicks off with a barbecue lunch followed by a 1:00 pm shotgun start and played in a “Shamble” format. Four local businesses will be donating prize money for the teams with the lowest net score, to the local nonprofit of each foursome’s choosing – a real win-win! There will be a casual cocktail party and buffet dinner after the 18-hole tournament where other members of the community can join in on the fun.
